(Snecial Correspondent—N.Z.P.A.T Recd. 6.30 p.m. London, Jan. 8. Swiftly on the heels of the Labour Party’s announcement that it is launching a mass memebrship campaign. and forming local discussion groups on current affairs, comes a statement that political education is to be encouraged by the Conservative Party. A conference has been planned for March 30, and the campaign will be ducted by Mr. R. A. Butler, of whom it ■ remarked that he is advancing tn influence in the party and is now
in the running for leadership of the party if Mr. Churchill goes.
The conference is to discuss plans for a political survey as a practical approach to education, and to enable the party, as a whole, to play a creative part in working out a policy. Discussion groups will visit factories and firms, and study local government problems in districts where they arise.
