EGYPT’S STERLING BALANCES
WILL NOT BE SEALED DOWN. Cairo, Dec. 23. Egypt would never agree to a scaling down of her sterling balances, said the Minister of Finance, Makram Pasha, in a speech during a Senate debate on the Bretton Woods agreement. Makram announced that Egypt had asked Britain to fix a date before March for negotiations on the problem of sterling balances.
