INTERESTS IN WANGANUI TROTTING

JUDGE APPOINTED FOR JANUARY MEETING

Inquiries regarding the Wanganui Trotting Club’s meeting to be held oa January 22 and 26, have already been received from several leading trainers, stated the secretary, Mr. C. S. Swan, yesterday. He added that support for the fixture had already been.promised by two prominent Auckland owners, and a representative of the club will attend the Auckland Trotting Club's three-diay summer meeting to make personal contact with other owners and trainers, Another factor which should operate in favour of the club’s revival of the light-harness sport, said Mr. Swan, was the keen interest displayed by members of the Wellington Trotting Club, the executive of which han promised the fullest support and cooperation. This gesture was keenly appreciated by the Wanganui Club. Win-and-place betting would be operated for the forthcoming meeting, added Mr. Swan, and the Wanganui Garrison Band will provide a musical programme each day. Mr. Martin Cock, of Wellington, has been engaged as judge for the meeting. Since the programme was tentatively framed last month the club has decided to offer a stake of £4OO for the principal event on the first day, the Wanganui Handicap (two miles'), and a stake of £3OO for the Morton Memorial (a mile and a-quarter), the concluding event Ihe same day.
