The Wanganui Chronicle. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21, 1945. TRANSIT CAMP FOR MARTON
IT is evident that the Marton Borough Council is alive to the value of a transit camp to accommodate people awaiting houses. 'Die council proposes to investigate a suggestion by the sanitary inspector (Mr. J. V. Flowers) that such a camp, on the lines of one near Palmerston North, be established. Such a move would give sonic practical expression to a desire to do something to meet the acute housing shortage in the Dominion. It is ironical that quite a lot of temporary housing accommodation can be obtained, but local bodies apparently talk about these problems without doing much in a practical way to solve them. If the Marton Borough Council leads the way in this matter it is deserving of commendation, not only because the camp will prove advantageous to Marton, but the action will surely set a lead for others.
