R.SA. ROOMS TO BE PROCEEDED WITH (0.C.) Hunterville, Dec. 4. In response to a request of the Town Board that the R.S.A. should reconsider its decision to proceed with its scheme to transform its building in Bruce Street into an office and meeting room the executive of the latter body held a special meeting. The matter was fully discussed as was also the Town Board’s proposal of a hall of remembrance for a war memorial, in which provision was made for R.S.A. headquarters. It was resolved that the association proceed with ils own scheme for which the bulk of the money had* already been raised and to continue to advance its proposal of a war memorial hospital. Since the meeting the R S.A. has received permission from the building controller to proceed with its building scheme and the matter of issuing a building permit will come before the Town Board at its meeting on Monday evening. CRICKET The newly-formed Hunterville Cricket Club played its first match in the Taihape Sub-Association’s competition over the week-end, being defeated by Mangaweka. The latter were at home on their concrete wicket, to which the Hunterville batsmen were total strangers. Batting first Mangaweka put on 129 (Hoort 46, Webby 28, Devine 20, Shellock 14; Darvill, three for 14; Gibbons, three for 13). Hunterville were all out for 44 (Illston 13, Olsen 12, Darvill 11; Hoort live for 10; Webby, five for 29). They followed o n and did much better, scoring 82 for four (Darvill 18 not out, England 15. Carswell 12, and Illston 12). . Next week there will be a trial match at Taihape, Darvill and Finney having been selected for the A team and England and Gibbons for the B team. THE LATE MR. S. R. Me ALLEY The recent death o£ Mr. S. R. McAlley removes one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of the Poukiore district, where he had lived for 47 years. He was born in Bulls 61 years ago, but came, with his parents, to reside in this district while still a lad As a youth he was keen on all forms of sports and as a footballer was above the average. His interest in the game continued right up to the time of his death. All movements for the advancement of the district had his active support and last vear he was one of the founders of the Poukiore Collie Club, of which he held the office of patron. He was an oflicial of the Farmers' Union and the Footing Club and a keen supporter of patriotic effort. Ho was one of the foundation members of the Rangitikoi Scots’ Society. Just prior to his death he had purchased a home in Hunterville and had decided to retire from active farming but. he passed away before the change could he made. He leaves a widow and one daughter (Mrs. S. Guiniven) and one son (Mr. 11. McAllev). The funeral was one of .the largest in Hunterville for many years, testifying to the outstanding popularity of the late Mr. McAlley. GENERAL ITEMS The Hunterville Guides and Brownies have raised over £l4 towards the funds of the Guides’ international ser- , vice A “bring and buy” stall, held by the Brownies on Saturday realised £9 17s 4d. while on the same afternoon the Guides dispersed afternoon tea.

The Guides' “working bees'* brought, in 13 13s (id. Competitions were won by Captain Joyce Brown and Brownie Colleen Mackay. The Chisholm Buttons were successfully defended on the local bovvlihg green during lhe week-end by Long and Ansley, who defeated Brown and Bourke 16-10. The latter led 11-10 at the 19th. head but two “threes” to Ansley put the issue beyond doubt.
