NO TOWELS, NO SOAP

HOTELS IN ENGLAND

Addressing the members of the executive ol’ the Red Cross Centre at I heir meeting on Friday, Mr. W. J. Jordan, New Zealand High Commissioner in London, who is visiting Wanganui, said that in hotels in England the management provided bo towels or soap, the guests having to take their own. He stressed this when advising members to rend soap in their gift parcels to friends in England.

Speaking of the shortage of fats, Mr. Jordan told this little story when suggesting the sending of ' tinned tongues or meat: “We once had to open a tin of sausages, but, having no fat, they could not be fried, they had to be toasted. There was so much bread in their make-up that the sausages were very dry and we did not know whether to use mustard or marmalade on them!” Mr. Jordan did not. say where the tinned sausages came from, but stressed the fact that tinned meats of alj kinds were a welcome addition to the rations, especially when there were unexpected gusts lo lunch.
