50,000 EXPECTED AT TWICKENHAM

TO-DAY’S RUGBY MATCH

CLOSE GAME LIKELY. (Special Corre»pondent—N.Z.P.A.) Recd. 11 p.m. London, Nov. 23. The New Zealand Army Rugby team and its match against England at Twickenham to-morrow has been receiving a good press, though not to such marked degree as the Russian soccer team’s games. It is estimated there will be 50,000 people at Twickenham, and perhaps the King and Queen, to see the first big game at this famous ground since the war. Everything seems to Indicate that it will be a closely-fought game. If it has proved nothing else, this tour demonstrated that New Zealand has a great reputation for Rugby in this country, and there is a surprising number of people who, in casual conversation, can make free with the names of those who played in 1935, 1925, and, in some cases you can hear appraising comments of the 1905 team. Much of this Interest for the British people in snort doubtless is due to the fact that in most other walks of life there is a touch of dourness these days. There are so many problems to be solved in so many different directions that the people are glad to forget about “them temporarily, and to discuss a subject in which , anybody can regard himself as an expert, and nobody minds very much whether he is or isn’t. It is a welcome change from being told that Britain is having her leanest time, and, for instance, that of the United States, Canada and Britain, this country is the worst off for food and: is eating more “filler” meals than others.
