FAST FINAL GALLOPS

(P.A.) Christchurch, Nov. 22. Lance Wing reeled off a mile in 1.40 on the course proper at Riccarton this morning alter covering the first half in 49sec. It was an attractive piece of galloping though when he worked after the interval there was a strong following north-west wind to help him in the run home, while he was shaded from it in the run up the back. Nevertheless he is a very fit horse.

Royal Chance, maiden four-year-old by Irish Lancer from Palantua, and a candidate for the Riccarton Handicap, sprinted seven furlongs in 1.27, the opening three in 37sec. The wind was also high when he worked. These were easily the fastest times on the course proper, but. a number of early gallops, when conditions were still, were also attractive. CUP CANDIDATES

Golden Souvenir, Chung Chong and Sir Bian worked nicely over 10 furlongs, finishing in the order named at neck intervals. They ran the last mile in 1.44, coming home smartly from four furlongs in 50 3-5. Sir Bian and Chung Chong were in front until the half-mile where Golden Souvenir closed on them. The three horses completed the task well. Piccolo had two lengths to spare from Vafort at the end of their mile in 1.43 4-5. They ran the opening half smartly in 50sec. Gigli was too good for Royal Victor over a mile in 1.43 3-5, the last half in 51 2-ssec. Gigli looks in excellent shape for the Derby. Fortune’s Smile and Tenor Royal kept together until 50 yards short of the post, when Fortune’s Smile drew out to win by a length and a-half in 1.30 for seven furlongs. Their last four took 50 4-ssec.

Capronella finished on to be with Authentic and Chicago at the end of nine furlongs. They did the mile in 1.42 4-5 and the final half in 51 2-5. Chicago joined the other pair at the six furlongs. Falconbridge had no trouble in beating Air Lord by two lengths over seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5, with Sphere making heavy weather of his task well in the rear. Sphere lost several lengths at the start, Air Lord leading over the first three in 38 3-5. A fairly strong wind was blowing at the time, also when Pride of Mossburn and Sing Sing ran a mile attractively in 1.41 4-5, the last half taking 50 2-ssec. SPRINT FAVOURITES Tuis and Irish Note sprinted brilliantly over four furlongs in 48 1-5, and Lord Advocate finished on to shade Reorapa by a neck at the end of five furlongs in the smart time of 1.1 2-5, the first in 12sec. Theiolyn and Sweet Biscuit recorded even better time in a similar trial In 1.1 1-5, their first taking 12 2-sseo. Bracken and Chain kept together over seven furlongs in 1.32, the first four in 52 2-5. Al-Sirat worked over a mile in 1.48 3-5, the first half in 54 2-ssec. Benbecula was well held while running six furlongs in 1.16 2-5, the opening two in 25.

Beau Cheval sprinted home from four furlongs in 50 l-ssec. Hormuz and Thornbridge kept on terms to record 1.30 for seven furlongs, the concluding four taking 52 l-ssec. Bridge Acre was too good for Singing Hills in a trial over 10 furlongs in 2.14 2-5. the last four in 54 2-ssec. Miss Medley was doing better than Palfrey at the end of a similar trial in 2.13, lhe pair coming home over their final four in 52 3-ssec. Nurnie sprinted four furlongs in 50 l-ssec, and Langue d’Or and Broiefield completed strong work by running three furlongs in 38sec. Riverview and Alcyone went, evenly throughout a mile in 1.46. Lowry Bay and Kashmiri took 1.18 3-5 for six furlongs, also travelling at an even rate of speed. Deprive had a slight advantage from Burberry after recording 1.2 for five furlongs, the pair breaking 12sec. for the first. Verdant went over the same ground in 1.3 2-5, his first in 12 3-ssec. Swift Jav completed seven furlongs in 1.30, his last four in 52 2-ssec. Longsword took 1.33 1-5 for a similar task, the first four in 53 3-ssec. SIGNAL OFFICER AMISS Signal Officer is suffering from a bruised foot and was restricted to pace work. It is doubtful if he will start in the Cup. Newel Post was scratched for the New Zealand Derby at 4.50 p.m. yesterday. Montezuma appeared to be going a shade more easily than Lady Welbeck at the end of a mile in 1.43, though they took 52 2-ssec. for the last half. Blue Trout was not allowed to do her best while working over four furlongs in 49 l-ssec. Sanskit was going more easily than Belle Leonne over the final stages of S . Spiora broke away in front of Privilege at four furlongs but Privilege soon caught her stablemate, the pair finishing on forms in 50 2-ssec Swingalong dropped right back in a 1 rial with Douglas Haig and John o’ London over seven furlongs in 1 30 3- the last four in 52 2-ssec. e Anau I«ady also had the best of conditions when she worked over six furlongs in 1.17, coming home in 49 On the plough Avonbridge took 1.47 4- for a mile after running the first half in 51 3-5. Double Cross went over the same ground in 1.48. the first hair in 52 3-ssec. Competitor recorded 1.46 4-5, the opening half n 52 3-ssec.
