MADE QUICK RETURN

ROYAL SILVER WAS CHEAP FOR NEW OWNER

(Special) Auckland, Nov. 22. On the day before the Waikato meeting on Saturday the breeder and owner of Royal Silver, Mr. R. B. Hines, disposed of this hack for 200 guineas. Royal Silver did the right thing immediately for his new owner when he won the Second Bruntwood Hack, with the owner’s son in the saddle. The first prize was worth £219 asd this, plus a dividend of almost half a century in which the new owner was mildly interested, made the? Silver Stick gelding a very cheap horse. Now that he has started winning this four-year-old may go on with it.

A hack that ran quite a good race in the event won by Royal Silver was San Rosa. Like the winner, he comes from Te Aroha. San Rosa was not more than a couple of lengths from Royal Silver on Saturday and this effort very encouraging for a horse still \ maiden after starting four times previously. San Rosa is by Chatsworth from Gay Rose, a halfsister by Gav Shield to Lucy Rose, dam of Lou Rosa. Harris Tweed had his first start in a hurdle mce at Te Rapa and he duly won, giving a very good beginning to what should be a distinguished career as a jumper. He was heartily supported, being a firm second favourite to Sir Grant. The latter ran badly but Harris Tweed raced very generously and jumped splendidly. Harris Tweed might have been a bit lucky in beating the outsider Water Flight, but the latter has had the greater experience. The Te Rapa winner is engaged in the Hurdles at Ellerslie on Saturday next. EASY FOR LEIGH HARK

It was during last winter that Leigh Hark was at his best and it was considered he was not relatively so good on firm tracks. However, he gave the lie to that at Te Rapa on Saturday, when he easily defeated the opposition in the second division of the Hautapu Hack, run over eleven furlongs. He has always been regarded as a stayer and he should get further opportunities on the provincial circuit in the lesser handicap company. It may not be long before he is tried out over the sticks. Leigh Hark is not in at Ellerslie on Saturday.

Dink’s Own had run quite a fair race at Ellerslie a week prior to contesting the first division of the Hautapu Hack at Te Rapa and this caused him to be made second favourite in his division. Always handy, the Stratfordtrained gelding came through when asked for his effort in the straight and scored convincingly. Dink’s Own and Dunbar won £460 for the stable on their northern trip and both these gallopers should not be difficult to place when they return south.

The winners of the non-totalisator maiden divisions at Te Rapa were Royal Charter and Jeep. The latter had always shown speed and should be useful in the hack class. Royal Charter just scrambled home from Pongi, the former is a four-year-old by Foxbridge from Shirred Ribbon and is the first living foal from this mare, her two earlier progeny being dead. Shirred Ribbon is by Garter Blue from Aphrodasia daughter of Martian and Paphia, by Birkenhead. CHANCE FOR AVHITE BLAZE But for losing considerable ground in running wide on the home turn, White Blaze would have given a much better account of herseh in the Waikato Guineas, without having any chance of beating Balmacara. She is to have her next outing in the open mile at Ellerslie this week, and on this right-handed course she may do much better, for her best races have been run this way round. It has yet to be seen, however, if this filly can get. back to her best. A promising youngster seen out in the Tamahere Stakes at Te Rapa was the grey colt Hiraji. As was only to be expected in his first outing in public he ran greenly, but sufficient was seen of him to arouse interest in his future programme. This colt, who finished fourth and carried solid support, is owned and trained by G. Cobb, who has won four races in three weeks with Diamond King. Zulu Boy and Royal Scot. Hiraji is by Nizami from Duvach, a speedy mare also owned by Mr. Cobb, who won several races in the province a few years ago. This youngster is engaged in the two-year-old event at Ellerslie this week. It was surprising to find the Ellerslie hack Golden Pay at very liberal odds in the distance hack event at Te Rapa, and for second his place price was very good. Early in his career this chestnut used to run himsellf out by forcing the pace, and latterly he has been tried the other way and has been noticed running on. Golden Pay is engaged on Saturday in the mile and a-quarter Takapuna Hack and another useful effort should be forthcoming.
