MAY AFFECT NEW CABINET Recd. 10.15 p.m. Athens Nov. 22. Archbishop Damaskinos swore in the new Government in his capacity as Regent. M. Cenellopoulos, to whom Archbishop Damaskinos handed his resignation for transmission to the King in London, explained that he temporarily withheld the message in order to facilitate a solution of the crisis. Recd. 11 p.m. London. Nov. 22. The Exchange Telegraph agency's Athens correspondent quoted Mr. Sofoulis as saying that the King’s London statement was the direct cause of Archbishop Damaskinos’ resignation. Reuter’s Athens correspondent said the Populist Party leader, Mr. Tsaldaris, said the party would refuse to recognise the Cabinet sworn in by M. Canellopoulos. He told Mr. R. McNeil that the British proposal that he should swear in the new Cabinet would be illegal and unconstitutional. Messrs. McNeil and Leeper thereupon again conferred with Archbishop Damaskinos. this time accompanied by M. Canellopoulos. The Sofoulis Cabinet was later sworn in bv Archbishop Damaskinos. Mr. Sofoulis asked Damaskinos to withdraw his resignation, otherwise the Regency will be assumed by the Cabinet in accordances with the Constitution.
