After considerable discussion on the question of dancing, the district synod o£ the Methodist Church, which concluded its sessions in Wanganui yesterday, adopted a recommendation of the church welfare committee that the Dominion conference authorise church trust boards to permit acts of dancing to be included in the social programmes of church societies. The recommendation refers to gatherings held on Methodist Church oroperty, but the approval of the iocal quarterly meeting is required. Must Return to School.

An Education Department regulation which rarely has to be enforced, is to be acted upon by the principal of the Wanganui Technical College, Mr. J. H. Dash, who was instructed by the Board of Managers at its recent meeting to take steps to ensure the return of a pupil who left school before reaching 15 years of age. The pupil in question turned 14 in August. School age regulations provide that a child must attend school, or receive adequate instruction, till 15 years of age. A penalty is provided for parents or guardians who allow a child to leave school before reaching the legal age, and also for an employer who employs the child. Gusty Northerly. A gusty northerly wind which reached gale force in the afternoon was followed by rain last night, breaking the spell of fine, weather which lasted in Wanganui over several days. The wind freshened on Wednesday right and continued all yesterday, raising much dust from streets and gardens which were verydry after more than a week without rain. Temperatures were agam high and the atmosphere was very humid. Heavy rain fell last night anu brought a refreshing change. At 5 p.m. yesterday the barometer was falling sharply at 29.52in5., but as the wind was from off the land there was only a slight sea at the harbour entrance. The Patea bar was unbroken, however, and the small coastal motor-ship Foxton, which left Wellington on Wednesday afternoon, put into Castlecliff for shelter. She will resume her passage to Patea when the weather moderates.
