Christchurch, Nov. 20. None of the New Zealand Cup candidates was given a searching task at Riccarton this morning, but the Stewards’ candidates to sprint well were Sweet Biscuit, Reorapa, and oLrd Advocate, while Blue Trout’s sprint over four furlongs on the course proper in 48 3-5 sec. was unequalled. Both the course proper and plough were fast. Nurnie galloped in his usual free style to cover six furlongs on the course proper in 1.17, coming home over the last four in 51 4-ssec. Bruce and Palm Bearer were together at the end of four furlongs in 49 4-ssec. Golden Souvenir and Signal Officer kept together over a mile in 1.44 4-5, running the final half smartly in 51 1Capronella, Authentic, and Swingalong were in close order to record 1.45 4-5 for a mile, but took 53 l-ssec. for the last half. Spiora took 1.5 1-5 for five furlongs, the first in 12 3-ssec. Competitor was the first to work on the plough, running over nine furlongs in 2.1. He did the first four in 52 2-5 sec., and six in 1.19 2-5. Sweet Biscuit beat Gamble by half a length over five furlongs in 1.3 3-5. the first in 12 3-ssec. Sweet Biscuit gained an advantage early and though Gamble worked un to her the Aucklander drew out again nearing Ihe finish. Reorapa followed to record 1.2 3-5, the best five furlongs of lhe morning. He sped over the first in 12 2- Deprive took 1.5 2-ssec. for a similar task, his first in 12 3-ssec. CUP CANDIDATES’ TRIAL The Cup candidates, Chung Chong. Fortunes’ Smile and Sir Bian worked over a mile and a-quarter in 2.13, the last four in 53 4-ssec. Chung Chon" was a length and a half in front of Fortune’s Smile, who han a good deal the worst of the weights, with Sir Bian finishing on two lengths back. Sir Bian was in front in the middle stages, but dropped back several lengths on the home turn. John o’ London and Chicago went freely over seven furlongs in 1.30 2-5, lhe opening four taking 53 l-ssec. Lord Advocate and Pendantic returned the best figures for seven furlongs, 1.29 2-5, after doing the first four in 51 3-ssec. Honest Sal took 2.15 for her mile and a-quarter, running home ozer the final four furlongs in 53 l-ssec. Air Lord held Falconbridge off by a neck at the end of their mile in 1.48 1-5. They went fairly evenly throughout. Tenor Royal was well clear of Roman Son to complete six furlongs in 1.20 1-5, the first two in 27 2-sse,?. Ration, after doing two furlongs in 23 3- finished five smartly in 1.3 1-5. Commemorate made a better showing than Palpitate in a school over six hurdles. Trench Law trailed them, but crashed at the fourth. He was remounted and scrambled over the last two. Lunaria and Prince Dolomite made a polished showing over six hurdles, travelling at a strong paca through out.
