None of the New Zealand Cup candidates was given a searching task at Riccarton this morning, but the Stewards’ candidates to sprint well were Sweet Biscuit, Reorapa, and oLrd Advocate, while Blue Trout’s sprint over four furlongs on the course proper in 48 3-5 sec. was unequalled. Both the course proper and plough were fast. Nurnie galloped in his usual free style to cover six furlongs on the course proper in 1.17, coming home over the last four in 51 4-ssec. Bruce and Palm Bearer were together at the end of four furlongs in 49 4-ssec. Golden Souvenir and Signal Officer kept together over a mile in 1.44 4-5, running the final half smartly in 51 1Capronella, Authentic, and Swingalong were in close order to record 1.45 4-5 for a mile, but took 53 l-ssec. for the last half. Spiora took 1.5 1-5 for five furlongs, the first in 12 3-ssec. Competitor was the first to work on the plough, running over nine furlongs in 2.1. Fortunes’ Smile and Sir Bian worked over a mile and a-quarter in 2.13, the last four in 53 4-ssec. Chung Chon" was a length and a half in front of Fortune’s Smile, who han a good deal the worst of the weights, with Sir Bian finishing on two lengths back. Honest Sal took 2.15 for her mile and a-quarter, running home ozer the final four furlongs in 53 l-ssec. Air Lord held Falconbridge off by a neck at the end of their mile in 1.48 1-5.
