SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Pilot Officer Craig Edwards and* Mrs. Edwards, who are staying with the former’s mother, Mrs. H. Edwards, St. John’s Hill, have been visiting Hun'ei ville. Miss I. M. Henderson, matron of the Otaki Sanatorium, has been selected as the new matron of the New Plymouth Hospital, succeeding Miss N. M. Knight, who goes to Wellington Hospuai as the first assistant matron. Miss Henderson was a former senior tutor suter at the Auckland Hospital. Peti Parata (Mrs. Olsen), of Petone, well-known for her singing of* Maori songs, hopes to leave lor Sydney in April or May of next year, where she will be engaged in broadcas.ing. Later, if circumstances permit, she hopes to go to South Africa, and eventually to England. Douglas Wolseley Hodge, second son of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Hodge, Nixon Street, Wanganui. HITHER AND THITHER Y.W.C.A. Blue Triangle Recent meetings of the Mothers’ Club have been well attended. One programme included a demonstration by Mrs. Summerell (president) of attractive novelties suitable for gifts. The last meeting being members’ day, Mrs. G. Walton was in the chair, with Mr*. L. Cross as acting minute secretary. Guest speaker was Major S. Hanton, whose subject “A Soldier’s Travelogue,” was listened to with deep interest. Very pleasing vocaj items were contributed by Mesdames Needham and Atkinson, with Mrs. Gohns as accompanist. All artists were thanked warmly. Tea hostesses were Mesdames Cooke, Pedder, Grant, and Underwood.

Kitchen Evening An enjoyable “kitchen evening” was given by Mrs. P. C. Loe, Alma Road, on Monday night for Mik,- D. Gillman, whose marriage is to take place on Saturday. The drawing room and lounge were gay with masses of 'flowers. The guest of honour was the recipient of many usefu] articles, and also of much advice, contained in humorous messages attached to the gifts. On benalf of the many guests, Mr. Lee conveyed to Miss Gillman their sincere good wishes for her future happiness. An interesting compititions programme, interspersed with musical and elocutionary items by Mesdames Palmer, Reid, Mcßride, and Miss La Roche, provided bright entertainment throughout the evening. A delightful buffet supper was served by the host and hostesses, who were accorded a special vo.e of thanks for their charming hospitality. Housewives’ Resolution.

A letter from the Wanganui branch of the New Zealand Housewives’ Association was read at a meeting of the Auckland Association asking for support in an appeal to hav® the rationing restrictions removed in the case of tea, sugar, butler and meat, and urging that immediate attention be given to the matter. The Auckland housewives decided to give their full support to the resolution in so far as it concerned tea and sugar, but felt that rationing of butter and meat might still be advisable at present in view of the acute shortage of these commodities in England.
