WAR MEMORIALS

THEY SHOULD BE LIVING AND VITAL (P.A.) Wellington, Nov. 21. A statement would be issued shortly regarding war memorials, stated the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser), opening the Patriotic Board conference to-day. He thought the feeling was that memorials should take the form of being beneficial, particularly to youth, by the establishment o£ community centres, sports centres and so forth. That conception would embody better than anything else the spirit of those who gave their lives. There appeared lo be a desire that memorials should be something living and vital. However, no final decision had been made. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry, considered that memorials should not be static.

“We want, to feel that the spirit of our boys throbs within ''those memorials,” he said. Those who had assisted the patriotic movement would be called on for a unified drive in connection with war memorials.
