ARRIVAL IN WANGANUI

MR. W. J. JORDAN’S VISIT

High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, Mr. W. J. Jordan, arrived at Wanganui yesterday on a visit to Mr. F. B. Clark, Kawakawa Street, Wanganui East, whom he first met in London 45 years ago. Mr. Jordan and Mr. Clark worked together as painters in London in 1900, Mr. Jordan being the foreman. At that time Mr. Clark was a boy learning the trade. Later, Mr. Jordan joined the Metropolitan Police Force, but soon after resigned and came to New Zealand. He began farming, but subsequently returned to the painting trade and worked in Wellington, Wanganui, Ngaruanwahia and Waihi. After serving in France during World War I, Mr. Jordan returned to New Zealand. Later he was elected member of Parliament for Manukau. In 1936, several years later, he was appointed High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, succeeding Sir James Parr.
