MR. F. E. S. LONG BACK FROM OVERSEAS

Absent from Now Zealand for more than five years, Mr. F. E. S. Long, a former boys’ wo v k secretary of the Wanganui Y.M.C.A., and later general secretary of the Y.M.C.A., Christchurch,'has returned to his home in Wanganui on leave. Mr. Long saw service in IJgypt and G.cece, and was a prisoner of war in Germany for four years. After two months in England he went to the Uni.ed States on a lecture tour. ? t son of Mrs. A. E. Long, Koromiko Road, Wanganui, Mr. Long was born and educated in the district, and in 1923 was appointed boys’ work secret ary in the Wanganui Y.M.C.A. In 1926 he took up a similar position in Christchurch, being appointed general Y.M.C.A. .secretary there in 1937. In 1940 he sailed lo the Middle East as senior Y.M.C.A. secretary and was in Greece the following March where he was captured. For four years he was chaphn at Stalag 317, Austria. Mr. Long was flown to England, .'pent three months there, and was then invited by the War Prisoners’ Aid of the Y.M.C.A. and the United States War Fund Effort to undertake a two months’ lecture tour of the United States. He finished the tour last week and is now on leave before returning to Chris church. He intends spending much of his leave in .Wanganui.
