FORMER WANGAMUI A.T.C. CADET

Flying-Officer A. D. Simpson, an original member of the Wanganui Squadron of the Air Training Corps, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal, according to advice received by his mother, Mrs. A. D. Simpson, London Street.

He was “dux” of the Aramoho School in 1937, attended the Wanganui Technical College for about, two years, and before enlisting in the Royal New Zealand Air Force was employed by Firestone Tyre Distributors, Wanganui. He carried out most of his training in New Zealand, gaining his wings at Taieri before going to England. Flying-Officer Simpson did several tours of operations over Germany, flying Lancaster bombers, and for a time was attached to the No. 75 (New Zealand) Bomber Squadron. He later transferred to Spitfires. He received his discharge from the R.N.Z.A.F. in Pingland and at present is working with the Firestone Tyre Company in London.
