COMBINED CARNIVAL
ENTERTAINMENT ON COOK’S GARDENS. Bright and interesting entertainment was provided on Cook’s Gardens on Thursday night, when a further effort was held for the Combined Carnival appeal of £25,000. Most colourful event of the evening was an historical pageant of nursing since Florence Nightingale. Vividly presented, it received well-merited applause from an audience which tilled the seating accommodation on the western bank. A maypole dance by pupils of Miss Swan was also a colourful display and well performed by a troupe composed mostly of very young children. Talented choral work by the Marist Brothers’ School choir arid the Wanganui Male Choir was deservedly applauded by the audience and added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening’s entertainment. -Song and dance in picturesque traditional native costume by members of the Young Maori Party concluded the programme. All the music was supplied by the Wanganui Garrison Bard and announcements and running commentary were made by Mr. C. S. Smith. Side shows received good support from the younger people.
