OLD SHOW MEDALS
FURTHER LINKS WITH EARLY DAYS
Two old show medals, links with the early days of the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association ana similar to those referred to in the “Chronicle” earlier in the week, .re in the possession of Mr. Nelson Hughes, Maxwell. They were formerly the property of his grandfather, the late Mr. J. Hughes. One of these medals, dated 1870, was awarded to Mr. Hughes for a draught mare, and the second medal, dated 1873, was awarded to the same exhibitor for a draught filly. At the Wanganui Show on Saturday, 75 year s later, a grandson, Mr. Stanley Hughes, was awarded the Southdown Sheep Society's medal for the best two-tooth ram in natural condition at the show. The early medals in Mr. Hughes’ possession are as old as those previously referred to in the “Chronicle.”
