HAS NO REDRESS

The Melbourne jockey, R. Heather, was suspended for two months after winning the A.J.C. Derby on Magnificent, the stipendiary stewards holding him responsible for a melee which occurred soon after the start. A newsreel shown in Australian theatres showed pretty conclusively that Magnificent steered a straight course and that another horse altogether was responsible for the trouble. Heather, on seeing this, wrote to the A.J.C. asking for a rehearing, but apparently will not get it. It is the most difficult thing in the world to succeed in an appeal to the A.J.C. or the V.R.C. These bodies give stipendiary stewards control of race meetings and apparently consider that it would weaken their prestige to reverse any of their decisions.
