WANTED: A BUGLER
Sir, —I was amused at an article in to-day's issue of your paper under the heading “Sandy’s Corner’’ — “Buglers are like Moas.” Now, sir, it appears to me that the committee of the R.S.A. responsible for conducting the golf tournament next Saturday have overlooked the I best bugler the New Zealand Army' ever had. and he is probably one of; the promoters of the tournament but I being a rather bashful chap, he is| lying low, having dug himself in. I' was tickled pink Io learn that Fred Hill would not even speak Io the poor old bugler during the 1914-18 war be I cause he hated him so much, but no doubt the bugler I referred to got a great deal of pleasure out of seeing poor old Fred coming a the double to answer the call. It is surprising how time is a great healer and, as3o years have rolled away since those days, th? poor old bugler everyone disliked is now’ probably loved by all his old com-1 rades and all his sins have been for-j given. But we ere still looking fori the bloke who used to wake the buglet up! There will be iio free pardon for) him. Now, if it will be of any help, I know of a golf enthusiast in Marton who can play most bugle calls on a duck call and it sounds all right
dawn; so if the R.S.A. is unable to get a bugler I will see what can be done, but I suggest first of all th»at Fred Hill and Company call on Clem Swan, hat. in hand, and ask him to oblige with the “Swan Song/’ Wishing them every success.—l am, etc. GEORGE HAAR, Putorino, R.D., Marton.
