21 THEFT CHARGES

POLICE CASE OPENED AT AUCKLAND (P.A.) Auckland, Nov. 12. Property and sums of money of a total value of more than £1275 were involved in 21 charges ot theft from dwellings and three Of breaking and entering and theft, which were preferred against Eric Alexander Kostanich, aged 23, labourer, who appeared before Justices to-day. Another labourer, Thomas Cheehan Shortcliffe, aged 23, was jointly charged with Kostanich on one count of theft, and one of breaking and entering and theft, and on a separate count of breaking and entering a dwelling and stealing property and money valued at £57. The prosecution was conducted by Detective-Sergeant Aplin, who will call a total of 48 witnesses to establish his case. There were still some depositions to be taken when the Court rose at 5 p.m. Among-the property alleged to have been stolen, during the period from July 25 to October 11, were radio sets, clocks, clothing, jewellery, bedding, cutlery, cameras, tyres, an electric kettle, cigarettes, tobacco and liquor. The dwellings at which the burglaries were alleged to have taken place were 5 Seafield View Road, 29 Ariki St., Grey Lynn, 3 Carrie Street, Sandringham, 616 Mount Eden Road, 32 Marine Parade. Herne Bay, 243 Mount Albert Road, 626 New North Road, SOa New North Road, 861 New North Road, 991 New North Road, 1109 New North Road, 71,9 Great North Road, 53 Dexter Ave., Mount Eden, 55 Dexter Ave, Upland Road, Remucra, 11 Ascot Ave.. 5 Malnston Road, Remuera, 77 Crummer Road, Grey Lynn, 49 Edwin Street, Mount Eden. 33 Reimers Rve., Sandringham, 135 Mountain Road, Epsom, 19 Pah Road, Epsom, 445 Remuera Road, 33 Cromwell Street Mcunt Eden, 6 Tranmere Roau, Sandringham, and 131 Balmoral Read, Mount Eden. Most of the witnesses said they had returned after being absent from their homes to find they had been entered end thoroughly ransacked. The hearing was adjourned.
