INCREASE IN STERLING EXCHANGE. An increase in sterling exchange of £ 2.694,581 ie shown in the Reserve Bank statement of assets and liabilities as at November 5. Note iseue showed a further increase of £278,644. The statement is as follows;--LIABILITIES.
liabilities was 71,944 per cent., compared with 69.368 per cent, on October 29. The reserve on November 5 was £75,172,918, an increase of £619,789. A year ago the reserve was £37,276,671. Sterling exchange on November 5 wa*> £74,460,120, an increase of £2,694,581. Liabilities in currencies other than Ney Zealand currency were £89,078 (an increase of £74,792). thus making the bank’s net overseas assets £74.371.041. against £71.751.252, an increase of £2,§19.789. A year ago these assets -were £34,474,804. Advances to the State Marketing Department were £2,054,758, an increase of £38,652. Advanceo to the State for other purposes increased by £2,000,000 to £25,000.000, against £25,835,000 a year ago The note issue on November 5 was £42,195.010 an increase of £278.644 for the week. A year ago it was £38,082,359, and two years ago £34.704,718. Demand liabilities to the State amounted to £11,051,647, an of £1,776,381. The trading banks’ reserve balances totalled £53,168,505, a decrease of £2,316,936. Other liabilities st £‘2 t 903,665 had increased bv £372,843. The statement balances at £111,760,245, an increase of £241,591.
