OBITUARY

MR. W. V. KEAY ’ r 'l:e death has occurred of Mr. w.'.iter V. Keay, who, a decade or so ago, «as one of the best-known journalists in New Zealand. Mr. Keay served his time as a compositor on the "Cromwell Argus," owned by his uncle, the late S. N. Brown, -anil later joined him in the management of th » "Evening Globe." Dunedin. In 1899 Mr. Keay founded the "Winton Record," and was later editor-pro. prietor of the "Clutha County Gazetie" and the "Huntervilie Express." He served several terms in Government departments, and for some years was overseas correspondent of the Tourist Department. CAPTAIN J. D. S. PHILLIPS Advice was received in Wellington recently that Captain J. D. S. Phillips, formerly a well-known master in the service of the Union Steam Ship Company, died at Sydney, after a brief illness, at the age of 80 years. He was well known to many of the older members the shipping fraternity in New’Zealand. MR. J. ELLINGHAM The death occurred in his ninetythird year of Mr. Jeffery Ellingham, of 11 Amaru Road, Onehunga. Born al Northall, England, he came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Dunedin in 1875, and was connected with the building trade unlit his retirement in 1939. Mrs. Ellingham died in 1928.
