MILK AND CITY FINANCES

ELECTORS’ ASSOCIATION RESOLUTIONS Proposals regarding the city’s finances and the Wanganui milk supply are contained in two resolutions passed at a recent meeting of the Wanganui Electors’ Assoclet-on. The resolution concerning the city’s finances was worded thus:—“That in view of the critical state of local body finance in so many parts of the country, the citizens of Wanganui and the City Council should follow the example of the Councils of Mangonui, Whangarei, Matamata, Waitemata, Bay of Islands, Qtamatea, Raglan, Whakatane and Hauraki, and urge the Government to make available through the Reserve Bank interestfree loans for approved local body works.” The cost, of administration of such creations of credit wit.’ihi the Reserve Bank would naturally be a charge on the local body receiving the loan, noted the hon. organising secretary, Mr. R. O. C. Marks, quoting Mr. Langstone's statement in the House of Representatives that in one typical year the cost of administration in the State Advanves was 2s 6d per cent. The resolution regarding the milk supply contained three clauses, as follows: “(1) That the treating house should provide dairies with sufficient raw milk for their customers who want it, since it has been officially stated that, an ample provision of raw milk is available for all consumers who order it.” (No raw milk is at present being supplied to the dairies, the association notes). “(2) That consumers should receive milk in acordance with the requests they made in the order cards distributed by the vendors some months ago, unless they have countermanded their orders since that time.” (Since only 825 gallons of raw milk are being distributed at present, it is evident that many of the original orders are not being complied with, notes the association). “(3) That, all milk-bottle tops be branded with date on which milk contained therein is received by the treating house.” The resolutions have been forwarded to the Wanganui City Council with a covering note stat ng:—“We trust that the council will give due consideration to the foregoing proposals, and that a public statement will be made informing the people of the council’s attitude concerning these matters. “V’e are sending a copy of this letter to Mr. J. B. Cofterill, M.P.. since the suggestions contained in these resolutions will concern him also,” concludes the organising secretary, Mr. Maijp-
