MASKED INTRUDER
SERIOUS ASSAULT ALLEGED ON STOREKEEPER (P.A.) Gisborne, Nov. 8. Found in a semi-conscious condition in his dwelling at Rere, an elderly storekeeper, Mr. Arthur Smith, was removed to hospital suffering from serious injuries alleged to have been caused by an assault of.a masked intruder. Mr. Smith was found by Mr. Allan Bellis and he became unconscious immediately after telling Mr. Bellis that he knew nothing more than that a man wearing a mask looked in his window. He could not describe the assault, but his injuries, which Included head abrasions and the incapacitation of one leg, indicated that he had been extiemely roughly handled.
