SALE OF TOYS
CONTROL OF PRICES Provision for the more effective cotrol of the sale of New Zealandmade toys is the purpose ot a recent Prohibit.on of Sale Notice issued by the Price Tribunal. This prohibition affects only toys made by manufacturers who have failed to apply to the Tribunal for authorisation of their prices.
. On May 3, 1945, a Price Order was issued defining the maximum price (exclusive of sales tax) permitted to wholesale manufacturers where delivery was effected from the manufacturers’ premises or irom the premises of a wholesaler other than the manufacturer. The order also limited the margins permitted to retailers. A Declared Goods Notice was also isued on May 3, 1945, notifying manufacturers of the Tribunal's intention to issue a notice prohibiting the sale of New Zealand-made toys in cases where no authorised selling prices were approved.
Most of the principal manufacturers have submitted lists of proposed prices for approval, and, consequently, the prohibition of sale now made effective will affect only those concerns—mostly smaller manufacturers —who have not complied with the requirements to obtain authorisation of their prices.
