HURDLES AT ELLERSLIE
DIAMOND KING WITHDRAWN (Special). Auckland, Nov. 7 The withdrawal of Diamond King from the hurdles at the Avondale meeting on Saturday will be welcomed by owners of other horses in this event, for he appeared a very hard one to beat. He is not engaged at Te Rapa next week, but he may be tried out at Ellerslie later in the month. British Mint will be one of the heavily backed candidates in the Rangitoto Hurdles at headquarters on Saturday. He had three races on the flat over the two days at Whangarei and in each event he was right in the firing line to within sight of the post. As he has previously proved capable over the Ellerslie hurdles—he won in this class at his last start there—he may win again.
Te Kawiti claims two engagements at the Avondale fixture, for he has been paid up for in the Hurdles andin the Members’ mile. At Whangarei the first day he ran a very good race on the flat, and on the second day he was in the hurdles, although his engagement was not continued. Te Kawiti is now well down in the weights in the Members' Handicap and he may surprise if reserved for this.
