KILLEYMOON STOPPED

WHANGAREI POINTERS FOR AVONDALE MEETING (Special) Auckland, Nov. 6. Killeymoon went to the front at the start of the Farewell Handicap at Whangarei on Saturday, and as he was bowling along easily all the way and into the home stretch andther win seemed imminent. However, when Good Bay challenged Killeymoon was' soon beaten. The form was not good, for the winner received a severe check at the half-mile and then easily defeated Killeymoon. Good Bay is engaged in the open sprint this week at Ellerslie and he is now at his best. The largest dividend at the two-day meeting at W-hangarei was returned by Shortbread on Saturday when he captured the Novice Handicap, a race confined to two and three-year-old maidens. He drifted in the middle stages and his jockey had a rough ride, yet he came home fast on the outside to collar Interceptor near the finishing line. Shortbread is a big gelding by Dink from Danesia, by Prince Merriwee, and he may do well with further experience. He is not engaged at this week’s Avondale fixture but may race at the Auckland meeting a fortnight later.

The Three Kings Hack at Ellerslie on Saturday seems certain lo be a two-division affair, with about 20 runners in each heat. One of the possibilities may be Ruling Master who gave such a grand exhibition of sheer speed when he won a maiden at headquarters two months ago. The Foxbridge gelding was narrowly beaten ai Te Aroha, when he did not begin brilliantly enough to show his pace, and he went a fair race in the Great Northern Guineas. Indications are for a fast track at the week-end. A couple of two-year-olds lined up for the Novice Handicap at Whanftarei last week. Both hailed from H. Goldfinch’s stable. Beau Rosa was the nicer-looking youngster. The other, Irish Post, did not reveal speed or experience, for he was very slow away. Beau Rosa went all right for the first furlong and then was not bustled along, but he mav be a useful sort later. He is a colt bv Beau Reoaire from Mabel Rose, daughter of Nightmarch and Amyril. by Psychology from a. dam of many good gallopers, Amyrin. COROT SHOULD IMPROVE

Corot ran a fine race in the Whangarei Cup. While his second placing to Sousa does not reao like first-class form, it has to be remembered that the aged Vermeer gelding will have derived considerable benefit from that outing nearly a fortnight ago and he should strip almost a stone better horse in the big handicap at the Avondale fixture on Saturday. At Ellerslie last Easter Corot finished second to Orakau in a very smart field at a mile and a-half.

The versatile Betterman had another win last week, this time at Whangarei so his travelling propensities have not . dimmed his brilliance. He certainly had little to beat las’ week, and once he had overhauled the pacemaker Heroic Star, he had little difficulty in stalling off Abbey Fox. The latter disappointed in both her northern engagements and is a long way below her best. It would not be surprising to find her being given a lengthy spell or Heine retired to the brood mares’ paddock before long. A very impressive win over the sticks was scored by Diamond King on the opening day of the Whangarei meeting and he repeated the dose under an 111 b. rise last Saturday. He gave another dashing display of fencing and he can be ticked off to do avail in better company. It will be interesting to see how he shapes over the more formidabje fences at Ellerslie this week, as in this event he will hav" the same impost as he scored with at his second success at Whangarei. Raphael impressed at the Ellerslie meeting last month and he duly won the first day at Whangarei. Last Saturday he went another fine race, but he was not well placed once the field had settled down and this spoilt anv chance he might have had. Raphael drew the outside marble at the milebarrier and though he got away well he soon drifted. Ip finishing on just behind the placed horses he did alt right and may go well again at Ellerslie this week.

When the field had gone two or three furlongs in the Mitchelson Cud last month Beau Dink was in the ruck and he remained there for the greater part of the journey, so it was ilium. • nating to find him r. pning on in fifth place at the winning post. This effort suggests that Beau Dink has a chance in the King George Handicap at headquarters orr Saturday, for he seems to be on the up grade. The distance this week, a mile and a-ha'f, is the same as in the Mitchelson Cun.

It was a very weak field of hacks that Zulu Bov defeated at Whangarei last week, but for all that the manner in which he made the pace and then hung on strorglv to resist his challengers indicated that he is now back to his best form, as his showing the previous Saturday suggested he might be. Zulu Bov is engaged in the hack seven furlongs at Ellerslie on Saturday and with his rehandican he is 51b. below the weight allocated last week, which was lightened by the 71b. allowance.
