ATTRACTIVE HOLIDAY STAKES With the Taranaki Jockey Club offering a lotal of £4700 in stakes for its two-day summer meeting, on December 26 and 27, and the Stratford Racing Club increasing its New Year -stake-monev by more than £lOOO to a lotal of £5250, the Taranaki holiday circuit appears certain to attract houses from far afield. Usually there is a strong contingent from the Auckland povince, attracted by the prospect of securing a stake against competition not so strong as at the Ellerslie fixture with its limited offering for hacks. The programme for these two meetings will probably be keenly scanned by owners and trainers during the next two or three weeks. Main attraction at the Stratfor! meeting will be the Stratford Victory Cup with its stake of £7OO, including a gold cup valued at £75. This event is to be run on New Year’s Day. when the events, in keeping with the victory motif, will be appropriately named after oulstanding personalities of the war, including Frevberg, Churchill, Upham. Roosevelt, Eisenhower. Mont■omerv and MacArthur.
