ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB REVIVAL OF EVENING MEETINGS At an enthusiastic meeting of athletes and cyclists on Tuesday evening it was unanimously decided to revive the operations of the above club and to hold an evening meeting in the near future. Mr. C. Stafford presided and the following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. F. Purnell; president, Mr. C. Stafford; vice-presidents, Messrs. W. E. Simpson, W. G. Aitken, C. Henderson, E. B. The subscription was fixed at 5s (men) and 2s 6d (ladies) available for club meetings only. It was decided to applv to the Marlon Borough Council for the use of the park for sports meetings and the question of the lighting in the park was referred to Mr. A. Gracie. The members decided to start a benevolent fund for cyclists, each cyclist to nay Is per meeting, to be subsidised by Is by the club. If arrangements ran ftp completed the first meeting will be held on December 11. A dance will be held in the Victory Hall on Saturday. November 17 in order to raise funds for the benevolent f”r*d. N.Z. NATIONAL PARTY RANGITIKEI WOMEN’S SECTIONS There was a record gathering of members of the women's sections in the Rangitikei electorate at the Marton Jockey Club’s rooms on Tuesday afternoon. Miss Beckett presided and gave an account of the business transacted at the Dominion Conference at Wellington. Mr. Jas. Caithness, president, also reported on the Dominion Conference and the meeting of the Wellington Provincial Executive. Mrs. D. Brookie, of Bulls, who represented Rangitikei at the women’s conference in Wellington, gave a most interesting report of the business discussed and also comments on the lady speakers’ addresses. Mr. A. Way, secretary, referred to the coming election in 1946, the country quota, and the necessity for organising the campaign on a more elaborate scale. The meeting decided to arrange for further meetings of the women’s sections in different parts of the electorate. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the speakers and all present were entertained at afternoon tea at The Lounge.

“CINDERELLA” ANNUAL PERFORMANCE BY VIOLA BARKER SCHOOL OF DANCING.

“Cinderella,” the pantomime ballet in three acts, was presented by the Viola Barker School of Dancing at the studio on Saturday and Tuesday, November 3 and 6, to an appreciative audience of parents and friends of the public. The stage was effectively arranged with a background of golden brown velvet curtains grandfather clock, an important factor in the story of Cinderella, held pride of place in the setting. The presentation gave evidence of arduous work on the part of pupils and their teacher, Miss Barker, and each pupil gave a good performance in the individual parts assigned to them. The costuming wa s rich in colour and true to character. In the unavoidable absence of Marjorie Forrester, the part of the “Cat'* was played by Betty Horniblow on the first night at a day’s notice and was most effectively done. Marjorie Forrester was able to take her part on the second night and her performance was very realistic. David Triggs and Edith Gould were unable to take part in the presentation. On a charge of being in possession of liquor near a dance hall, Henry James and Derek Beuere appeared before Messrs. A. C. M. Parkinson and A J. B. Sicely, J.’sP., at the Marton Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, and were each convicted and fined £3 and costs. r Constable C. W. Bowley stated in evidence that on the night of October 17 the men had beer stowed in a motor-cycle sidecar combination parked near Beaven Street. He apprehended them when one left a dance at. the Victory Hall to obtain a bottle of beer. SUCCESSFUL XMAS FAIR.

The Christmas Fair held under the auspices of the Marton Methodist Church in the Druids’ Hall on Tuesday, was opened by the Rev. Cyril Robinson. Although there were several counter-attractions there was a good attendance, and brisk business was done by the stallholders. The gross takings were £79 15s 9d, which included £9 2s in donations. Mr. J. Decke, as organising secretary, carried out his ollie al duties in a satisfactory manner, and was ably assisted by Mrs. G Harvey. The stallholders were:—Apron, Mrs A. Watts; cakes and produce, Mesdames N. Dixon, B. Eagle and G Thomas: guild sewing stall, Mrs. Blackledge and Mrs. G. Ensom;
