T am directed to inform you that the matter raised does not nrmoaito fall within his authority as Aav-ernor-GeneraL” This ' reply from the Official Secretary of the Gov-ernor-General has been received by the conveners of the public protest meeting held in Pahtataa on Friday evening when it was decided to telegraph His Excellency the Gov-ernor-General, requesting him to dissolve Parliament in order that the wishes of the people might be ascertained before the contemplated alteration to the electoral laws and principles were effected.
