POSTHUMOUS D.F.C.

AWARD TO TARANAKI AIRMAN.

The Distinguished Flying Cross has been awarded posthumously to Acting Flight-Lieutenant G. R. Joblin, son of Mr. and the late Mrs. R. G. Joblin, Kakaramea. Before he was reported missing over Stuttgart in July, 1944, Flight-Lieutenant Joblin had completed 30 raids against the enemy. He was presumed dead two months ago. No official citation of the award has been received yet, but warm praise of Acting Flight-Lieutenant Joblin’s ability as a Lancaster pilot of Squadron No. 136, Bomber Command, was expressed by his comanding officer. Writing to Flight-Lieutenant Joblin’s parents after their son was reported missing, he termed him as “the mainstay of the squadron." Flight-Lieutenant Joblin, D.F.C., was educated at the Ararata school and the Hawera Technical High School. Before his enlistment in the Royal New Zealand Air Force he was employed in the seed store of the Farmers' Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand Ltd. at Hawera. He was trained as a pilot in Canada, where he was commissioned in 1942 before serving in Europe.
