ACHILLES DEPARTS
TO RELIEVE THE GAMBIA IN JAPAN (P.A.) Auckland, Sept. 23. The cruiser Achilles left Auckland on Saturday for Japan. She is to relieve [he Gambia, which has been New Zealand’s naval representative at Tokio since the surrendCT. It has not yet been announced when the Gambia will arrive at Auckland, which has not seen her since she left last February in company with the British battleship Howe. Although New Zealand sent warship to Samoa during the Mau rebellion to help keep the peace this is the first time New Zealand ships have been part of the occupation forces of a defeated country. Tlte Achilles is the first to leave Auckland for that purpose.
