FREEING OF JAVA
Recd. 6 p.m. Singapore. Sept. 22. South-east Asia Command occupation troops will move into Java about October 4. Indonesian nationalists have started a campaign for freedom from foreign rule (says the Associated Press Batavia correspondent). Ten thousand held a rally on Thursday, ringed by Japanese tanks and machine-guns. The Japanese are still ruling the population under orders of the British Navy, pending the arrival of Allied occupation forces.
