DAILY WORK OF “A TUI"

TALK BY SERGEANT O. LOW, OF MARTON. (0.C.) Marton, Sept. 21. An account of a New Zealand “Tui’s” work at the Cairo Club, and at other centres, was given by Sergeant Olive Low, (nee Olive Barton) at. the Marton Rotary Club recently. They started with 30 “Tuis” at the Cairo Club and as the clubs grew 13 “Tuis” were allotted io each club. The Cairo Club was 13 stories high and was equipped with all the necessary furnishings for a firstclass hotel. Tvlost of their time was taken in arranging for conceits and making sandwiches and fruit salads. When off duty they assisted the boys In shipping, the shops in The club being run for the benefit of the boys and no profits were made, the goods being sold at. the prices at which they were purchased. They had the pleasure of appearing in a concert and ballet iparty before the King and were very • thrilled. ; When the whole of the division was * on leave some idea of the daily work | can be gleaned from the following j figures of the foodstuffs that were handled:—69,3oo eggs, 1900 loaves of bread, 3191 dozen cakes, 71001'bs. of fruit, 1691 chickens, 8661b5. of fish, 44601bs of meat 17,2641b5. of vegetables, 288 dozens of saveloys, 15,973 tins of tobacco, 35,264 packets of cigarettes and 7000 oranges.
