CANTERBURY TURN TABLES ON OTAGO
(P.A.) Christchurch, Sept., 23 Canterbury beat Otago by 20 points to 10 in a representative Rugby match at Lancaster Park yesterday. When the provinces met earlier in the season at Dunedin Otago won by 34 to nil. A record crowd of 10,000 watched yesterday’s match, in which Canterbury scored six tries. The goalkickers had an off day and only one try was converted. Oiago scored two tries, both converted.
Brilliant back play gave Canterbury its win. Emery half-back, Roach first five-eighths and Mitchell, centre, played dazzling football and completely outclassed the opposition with their speed, feints and enterprise. Canterbury had the advantage in the set scrums and line-outs but Otago was superior in loose forward rushes. Scorers for Canterbury were Mitchell (2), Forscutt (2), Drummond and Roach. Fitzgerald converted one try. For Otago Wheeler and Hughes scored tries, both of whicn were converted by Currie.
