TECH. OLD BOYS GO DOWN B—6. V Better team play enabled the Athletic (Wellington) junior team to beat Technical Old Boys in the early game on the park by <8 points to 6. Failure by the home side to convert the last try lost it the opportunity of walking off the field with honours even. The visitors fielded a strong side but despite depleted ranks Technical Old Boys put up stout opposition. They weathered a buffeting in the first session of play, but hung on grimly and were more than holding their own in the stages of the match. The game had only been 10 minutes old when Technical Old Boys lose their half-back, J. McPhail. Technical Old Boys had to play hard to keep the fast-moving mon in the Athletic back line from scoring. Baddeley scored the opening try of the match when he took an infield pass and raced clear of of Willacy’s tackle. C. Kershaw converted.—Athletic 5, Technical Old Bovs 0. Goldsbury and Smart led Technical in a fast raid. but. the tackling of Luoni and P. Kershaw halted progress. Baddelev (Athletic) was injured and | had to leave the field. He was re-1 placed by O. Radcliff. Ip turn Bennett and Eain made sideline dashes for Athletic, hut their opposite numbers, Mete Kingi and Bailey,

tackled their men well. After the interval Technical Old Boys began to give a better account of themselves and in one forward move, which opened a gap in the defenders’ defence, O’Keefe scored. The kick failed.- Athletic 5, Technical Old Boys 3. In the face of fast forward play errors crept into Technical Old Bovs’ defence and Luoni, in a deft move, scored. The kick missed.—Athletic 8, Technical Old Boys 3. Technical Old Boys’ forwards were now seen in several strong bursts, and from such a move O'Keefe scored in a handy position.
