WANGANUI GARRISON BAND

Presided over by Mr. H. H. West, the annual meeting of the Wanganui Garrison Band was held on Wednesday. Many organisations had been assisted during the years, stated the report, which also referred to the valuable assistance given by Lieutenant R. Thomas and membeis of the Armoured Fighting Vehicles Band. Reference was made by the president to the deaths of two ex-bands-men which had occurred during the year, Messrs. G. Jensen and J. Richards. Stone, and C. S. Jeffs; hon. solicitor, Mr. N. M. Izard; hon. treasurer, Mr. W. Skelsey; hon. auditor, Mr. E. Barnett; hon. secretary, Mr. H. J. Hall; assistant-secretary, Mr. C. S. Smith; citizens’ committee, Messrs. C. S. Jeffs, W. J. Stone, N. Reid, G. P. Hawkins, R J. Bell, R. H. Lattey, R Schumaker, E. Schnack and G. Swain; band committee, Messrs. P. O’Neill, W. Francis, J. Eyres, K. Bennett, M. Booth; property masters, Messrs. W. Kenyon and K. Bennett; librarians. Messi’s. J. Eyres and B. Batten; acting conductor, Mr. J. Bevin; bandmaster, Mr. J. Bevin. It is expected that the conductor, Captain R. Francis, will resume duty shortly after being in charge of the Papakura Military Band during the war.
