R.S.A. BOWLING GREEN

Sir,—Cr. C. S. Smith's “clarification” of the R.S.A. attitude Jo tl> establishment of an R.S.A. bowling green, which appeared in to-day's "Chronicle’’ is not quite fair to me in that his interpretation of my remarks at the council table is misleading. I stated that in the 27 years which have elapsed since the conclusion of World War No. 1 the members of the deputation had had ample opportunities of joining any one of fhe numerous bowling clubs already established. In recent weeks I have been approached personally to join a club. However, mv main objection to the Works Committee's proposal to la?/ down a bowling green for returned servicemen, was that no indication as to the cost to the council had been prepared, and not one member of the Citv Council has the foggiest notion of the amount of money which is involved in acceding to the request of the deputation. Like my fellow councilors, I have a duty to all ratepayers.—l am, etc., A. R. DONALDSON. 20/9/45.
