FOXTON AT AWAPUNI

GOOD FIELDS FOR TO-MORROW

Probably the only criticism that keen followers of racing can offer regarding the Foxton Racing Club’s meeting at Awapuni to-morrow is the fact that betting is under the singlepool system, for the excellent Helds engaged would have assured generous place dividends. Eight events are carded, the field for the. Trial Stakes having been divided to provide two separate races, the second and third on the programme. The first race, the Pai-aki Hack Hurdls, is to start at 12 noon.

One of the features of the day’s racing will be the appearance of Typhoon, topweight in the Robinson Handicap, on the eve of his departure for Melbourne, where he is to run in the Caulfield Stakes and Caulfield Cup. He is class enough to win, even with 9.3, and keen interest will be displayed in his appearance. Prominent among his opponents are likely to be Langue d'Or, winner of the Foxton Cup last year, Kaitoa, last year’s winner of the Robinson Handicap, Saludos, Duplicity, one of the smartest juveniles last season and Master Ted, who was a shade unlucky at Wanganui last Saturday.

The Roxton Cup field of seventeen provides ample scope for an interesting contest. Topweight is Flying Tor, whose last three starts included two wins, in the Manawatu Winter Cup and the Parliamentary Handicap. Broiefield can be expected to put up a bold showing, and Keen Play is well placed to improve on his recent efforts, which have included a third and two fourths in recent starts. Lord Darnley, Duality, Hulabaloo, Dunbar and Ganges can be expected to provide tough opposition. Spiro and Bettermusk may appeal in the Paiaki Hurdles field, in which there are some interesting recruits. The penalised Second Seal will probably be in most request for the First Trial Stakes, and in the other Black Water and Alchemist may be expected to show up.

Wanganui form points to Don Mac in the Motuiti Hack, Stony Broke in the ten-furlong Awahou Hack, and Lord Coronach and The Grand in the hack sprint. Riding engagements announced for to-morrow are:—W. J. Broughton, Second Seal, Typhoon, Lord Coronach; G. R. Tattersall. Kaitoa First Footing, Tremello; F. Buchanan, Spiro, Gayanne, Bay Robe, New Timothy; W. E. Carter Peach King, Blackwater; S. Waddell, Theolateral; J. Garth, Flahuluk; V. J. Sellar?, Tahli, Gyration. Lady Spiral; N. Rouse, School Tie.
