MARTON JOCKEY CLUB EXTRA DAY APPLIED FOR At. the first meeting of the newlyelected committee of the Marton Jockey Club on Friday, Mr Stanford, president, welcomed on to the committee the two newly-elected members, Messrs C. F. McManaway *and K. McK. Duncan. Both these gentlemen are sons of old members of the club, members who have always been strong supporters of the club, and it is appropriate to find the sons following in the footsteps oi' their fathers.

To Mr. P. W. Briant a valued mem. her of the committee who has returned to New eZaland from a long period of active service, the chairman extended a hearty welcome and the committee's congratulations on his safe return.

Notification was received from the N.Z. Racing Conference, stating that 45 totalisator days of racing were available for the current year, and it was decided to apply for Saturday, February 9, 1946, for an extra permit.

The secretary reported that the following taxes had been paid into the Treasury for the season 1944-45: Totalisator tax, £6396 6s; dividend tax, £5595 13s; stakes tax, £63 13s; amusement tax, £242 8s lOd; income tax, £753 Os Id; Social Security and National Security tax, £338 17s 3d; total, £13,399 18s 2d. The club invested £250 in War Loans and donated £3O to patriotic funds. The following appointments were made:—Judge, Mr. 74. B. Bergin; handicapper Mr. H. Coyle. It was decided to call applications for the position of starter in the Racing Calendar. Finance Committee: Messrs A. T. Gatrell, A. H. Marshall, J. R. L. Stanford, L. K. Mcßeth and K. McK. Duncan.

Judicial Committee: Messrs S. P.. Hammond, L. Hammond, A. H. Marshall, A. T. Gatrell and W. R. Duncan. Course Committee: Messi's L. K. McBeth (chairman!, N. G. Briant, P. W. Briant and H. W. Lampp. Programme Committee —Messrs J. Bull. S. R. Hammond. A. H. Marshall, J. R. L. Stanford (chairman), A. T. Gatrell and K. McK. Duncan. New Members. The following were nominated: Messrs Grenville, J. Bull, Terence McGrath. Lindsay McLean, Chas. McCarthy Henry Bowen and Les Neverman. The following were elected as members: Messrs A. B. Caverhill, F. M. Brice (Marton), D. F. Gorringe (Mangaweka), and T. H. Takarangi (Wanganui). A New Track. The recommendation made by the general meeting that the committee take into consideration the laying down of a cinder track was discussed, and the committee decided that the question of laying down a cinder or track be referred to the Course Committee to bring down a report with estimates to be considered at the next committee meeting. ’rhe Course Committee reported that they had inspected the oar parking area after a recen* heavy downpom of rain and found that the main outjets were running at full bore. Further consideration would be given to the drainage in the car parking area when the weather improved. The tracks were now in good order after the May meeting. ' Mr. J. R. The quarterly general meeting of the Marton sub-branch of the Servicemen’s ‘Association will be held in the Marton Jockey Club's rooms to-mor-row (Tuesday) evening. It will receive a report on the 1945 Dominion Conference. HRE BRIGADE EUCHRE. The Marton Fire Brigades euchre tourney on Friday evening was well attended. Prize-winners were: Mrs. O. Ornstein 1, Mrs. E. Amer 2; Mr. Mildenhall 1, Mr. Bracewell 2. The number competition was won by Mrs. J. Jefferson, with Mrs. Holmes second.
