PROTESTANTISM IN GERMANY
Recd. 6.30 p.m. Sept. 8. "German Protestantism is uniting more closely than ever before with a new social emphasis, representing a revolutionary reversal of the former sole emphasis on theology,” said Dr. Hans Schoenfield, of the World Council of Churches, on returning to London from Gemiany. Churchmen in Germany now recognise responsibility for Ih e social and economic structure. This is a new emphasis, especially among true adherents to the Niemoller doctrine. Many, surprisingly, seemed to have swung from theological emphasis to the other extreme, and have emphasised that there is such close relationships between genuine Christianity genuine democracy, that the German church must recognise it. Schoenfeld added that the new view meant that Jaymen would have a growing role in the German church.
