HOMESERVICEMEN MEET NAME OF BRANCH NOT TO BE CHANGED. (0.C.) Taibape, Sept. 7. At a meting last month ol the Taihape branch of the New Zealand Homeservicemen’s Association a letter was received from the Marion branch suggesting that the name of the Taihape branch be changed to that of Ruapehu branch. Marion desired to change the name of its branch to Rangitikei branch. After a lengthy discussion it was decided not to accede to the request of the Marton branch. Taihape is part of the Rangitikei and it was likely to lead to comusioh, and the change over might lead to expense which was considered unnecessary. The secretary was requested to write to the Marton branch to this effect.

The following new members were enrolled: Messrs. G. W. Terrill (transferred from Auckland), D. G. Gordon, J. R. Gray, G. Greenhorn, D. L. How, M. Hunter, R. G. Mosen (Raetihi), J. D. Ovens, K. D. Walker and S. L. Wilson. There were present at the meeting, Mr. A. M. Gordon (in lhe chair), and Messrs. F. Bartrum, J. Davies, R. Jones, E. Steedman, and the secretary. Apologies were received from Messrs. D. Broome, G. Clark, C. Parlane and J. List. OTAIHAPE CLUB. The annual meeting of the Otaihape Club was held on Wednesday evening. There was a large attendance of members. The president (Mr. H. Belk) presided and presented his report and balance sheet, which showed the club to be in a very sound position. The president stated that since last annual meeting several members who had fought in the war had paid the Supreme Sacrifice, and all present stood in silence as a mark of respect to their late members.

Mr. Belk was re-elected president with a comparatively new committee, and Mr. Aldridge re-elected honorary secretary. At the close of the meeting the president made a presentation ot a silver tea and coffee service to the club steward, Mr. C. Weller, and Mrs. Weller, who had completed 25 years’ service with the club. Mr. Weller suitably replied. MARCHING CONTEST. Taihape is proposing to stage a huge display by the girls’ marching teams in the Recreation Grounds on December 8. This is to be followed by a dance in the Town Hall in the evening. In order to make the contest a success, it will be necessary for local residents to billet a number of the girls. Accommodation will have to be found for 190, including officials and the band. It is anticipated there will be 14 teams from Wanganui and also from other towns, and to raise funds dances and receive donations. Mr. dances and receive donatioinisi. Mr. Gray said it would not do for the committee to take the matter lightly but to put all its energy into making the contest an outstanding success. Junior. —Winiata Cup: Utiku v. Pirates, No. 1 ground, 1.30 p.m., Mr. E. Brogden. Town v. Navy, No. 2 ground, 1.30 p.m., Mr. L. Patrick. Huia, a bye.
