NEW GOVERNOR GENERAL FOR NEW ZEALAND

APPOINTMENT IS ACCLAIMED London, Sept. 4. The King, on the recommendation of the Xew Zealand Government, has approved the appointment of Lieut.-General Sir Bernard L. FTeyherg as Governor-General of New Zealand in succession Io Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Cyril Newall, whose term expires in February, 1940. General Freyberg' has recently been in England and returned Io Italy a few days ago. His appointment creates a precedent for New Zealand as it will be the first occasion on which the post has been tilled by a man already with close associations with New Zealand.
