WANGANUI ASKED TO FIND SUM OF £8790 Visiiing Wanganui for the purpose of organising the city's part for the Wellington Cathedral appeal, is Mr. K. W. Kilpatrick, campaign director of the appeal. Yesterday, Mr. Kilpatrick conferred with the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, who expressed his confidence that Wanganui would play its full part in the appeal, which will be inaugurated next Sunday (Cathedral Sunday) in Chris’ Church, when the preacher will be Mr. Howard Wadman, of Wellington. The Mayor has agieed to issue invitations to representatives of local bodies to attend a meeting in the Council Chambers on Monday, September 24, at which meeting the local organisation will be set up and the campaign organised. Of th" total amount required from the whole of the Wellington Province, £150,000, Wanganui is asked to raise £8790. The basis of the appeal being a penny a day for a year. This means -hat 5860 persons are wanted to con.rihute a id a c.ay for one year. Mr Kilpatrick said that in Wellington the majorhy of the committee were non-Anglicans. which emphasised the point that the Cathedral Appeal, being a national project, should commend i self to all sections of the community. “The raising of £S79O in Wanganui would'appear to ho a small task compared with the magnificent achievements made locally in the war years,” said Mr. Kilpatrick in conclusion.
