RUGBY, HOCKEY, HARRIERS RESULTS OF PLAY LAST SATURDAY. (0.C.) Marton, Aug. 12. Rugby, hockey and harriers all occasioned a great f'.eih of interest in the Marton area ou the Rangitikei yesterday. There were two Rugby matches Manawatu Colts beat Rangitikei oy 23 points Io three, and the Rest of Rangitikei beat A.T.C. by 11 points to 10. Rangitikei A beat Wanganui A at hockey by three goals to two and Rangitikei B by two goa,ls to nil. The tilth race lor the Todd Cup was run by the Marton Harriers and resultedin B. Phillips coming first. With one race to be run the fate of the Cup is stil in doubt and can be won by any of the leading six runners. Details of the various events follow:, RUGBY MATCHES. MANAWATU COLTS WIN. The Colts’ backs gave a good exhinit ion of passing, and fast work in tne back line. Rangitikei were unfortunate in having io play live emergencies. The teams were; Rangitikei (green).—Wright,, V. Stantiall, F. Kumeroa, M. Whale, H. Bishop T. Moore, D. Kane, S. Cashel, L. Hamer, P. Adams, J. Goodwin, L. Rowe, Dillon, B. Hurley and Henwood. Manawatu Colts.—Yates, Collier, Armstrong, Franke, Wilson (capt.), McKenna, Brookes, Wood, Griffin, O’Connor, Becker, Osten, McGarry, Saunders, Black. At the outset Rangitikei were awarded two free kicks, which failed to contribute to the score. Whale and Moore were partnered in a clever piece of passing. They carried play to the Colts’ line. A free kick to Colts centred play. Play was very interesting, several passing bouts by the Colts’ backs being frustrated by effective collaring. Collier made a solo run and scored under the goal posts. Yates converted.—Colts 5, Rangitikei A free to Rangitikei and Wright landed a goal.—Colts 5. Rangitikei 3. Hamer broke through and carried play to Colts’ line who forced? Play was fast and furious, passing runs bv the Colts being feature, but the greens’ tackling was faultless. Kane worked well behind the greens’ pack. The first spell ended—Colts 5, Rangitikei 3. A free to Colts, and Yates landed a goal from the centre of the field.--Colts <3 .Rangitikei 3. Colts indulged in a fine passing bout, play centring, where Rangitikei were awarded a penalty, but Wright failed with the kick. Another passing bout resulted in Franke scoring for the Colts. Yates converted.—Colts 13, Rangitikei 3. Colts secured from a line-out, and, the ball was handlled bv th n threeouarter line, Collier scoring between the posts. Yates converted.—Colts 18, Rangitikei 3 Wilson (Colts), injured a knee and was replaced bv Aubrey. From loose plav Franke secured and heat three opponents, scoring a brilliant trv, Yates converted.—Colts 23 Rangitikei 3. Mr. N. Cairncross was referee. REST v. A.T.C. The curtain-raiser between the above teams resulted in a good game, although the Rest had the better of the play, and showed good form at times. The opening stages of the game were evenly contested and from a clean pass in blues’ 25 Stewart crossed the line for the greens, but G. Bart* lett failed with, the kick.—Rest 3 A.T.C. 0. Line kicking and scrums predomiuinated for most of the first spell. From a piece of passing between Green, Mainwaring and Gibbs resulted in the latter crossing the line near the goal posts and G. Bartlett converted, and the first spell ended—Rest 8, A.T.C. 0. Play in the second spell was centralised for the first part. The greens started several passing runs, but were well tackled. Stewart secured near blues’ 25s and had a clear run to score near the corner flag which Stewart, failed to convert.- Rest. 11, A.T.C. 0. From loose play Dickson snapped up the ball, and with a snappy run, scored between the posts, which Kane converted.—Rest 11. A.T.C. 5. From loose play near the greens’ line, Bertram scored and Dickson kicked a splendid goal.—Rest 11, A.T.C. 10. Mr. F. S. Adams was referee. The teams were:— A.T.C. RANGITIKEI A Fast, hard hockey was provided in the above game, which was the best ot the season, and often sparkling play v. as witnessed. E. Pedersen, in a melee in front of the Wanganui goai, netted. Wanganui equalised soon alter, when a hard d was deflected oil a Rangitikei Stic... Play see-sawed until M. Wallace, following up a rebounding ball, scored again for Wanganui. Ranjtikei attacked again and some pretty play was given by the Wanganui halves. Determined, Rangitikei kept on pressure until E. Pedersen scored her second goal with a fast shot to the corner. At half-time the score was two all.

Upon resumption play was fast anc’ willing and both sides strived for supremacy. Some brilliant, runs wore seen, with Rangitikei having thn better of the play. Wanganui s goalie. Z. Stent, saved several certain goals until L. Sadler, Rangitikei's outer right, finished off a fast movement by scorli. Good Wanganui’s right half, played a magnificent game and saved her -team time and time again. Wanganui B v. Rangitikei B. Wr.-.iganui attacked from the start but Rangitikei, settling down, soon started a series of attacks, culminating in Apirana scoring with a pretty reverse shdt. Play see-pawed with Rangitikei having the better of tho game, and several Rangitikei shots were stopped bv the Wanganui goalie, until D. Paterson, on the left wing, following in fast, scored Rangitikei’s second goal. Miss Glasgow (Wanganui) bein’ very last, proved dangerous al limes, and following several solo efforts, was unlucky not to score.
