JAPS FAIL TO TAKE AIRFIELDS

DRAMATIC SUICIDE MOVE IT CAUSES CONFUSION ON OKINAWA ISLAND Recd. 6 p.m. New York, May 26. In the war's strangest suicide attack, the Japanese, attempting landings on American airfields on' Okinawa, lost possibly 140 men, who destroyed ten or more American planes, says the Associated Press correspondent.

The new type of assault caused such confusion that the Japanese had time to huddle for a conference and return to a plane for gear before attacking.

The New York Times’ correspondent says the enemy's furious attack against the fleet and airfields lasted 18 hours. Five enemy planes attacked the airfields, each loaded with men armed with grenades. All were killed as they attempted to accomplish their objectives.
