HUNTERVILLE TOWN BOARD

FINANCES IN SOUND POSITION. (0.C.) Hunterville, April 11. Prudent administration was reflected in an interesting summary of the financial position of the Hunterville Town Board presented by the clerk (Mr. E. J. Hurley) at last night's meeting. All accounts, he said, were in credit with an aggregate credit balance of some £l2OO. The board expressed gratification at the results considering that the rates had been lower and a great deal had been achieved. The Transport Department Inspector (Mr. Horniblow) attended the meeting with certain suggestions for bringing pedestrian crossings in the streets into line with the regulations. His proposal is to be adopted and his offer to assist the foreman in carrying out the scheme was accepted with thanks. Traffic domes in the streets are to be removed and angle parking lines put. in. Mr. Horniblow was thanked for attending and advising the board. In regard to the board's application for the erection of more State houses in Hunterville the Housing Department. advised that the department’s land purchase officer would visit the town at some convenient time and discuss the matter with the board. The letter was received. The chairman reported that a committee of the board had conferred with the R.S.A. regarding the erection of a flag-pole near the War Memorial. A satisfactory proposal had been decided upon and the board decided to proceed with the erection of the pole, material being provided by the R.S.A. When members met as a Domain Board the clerk reported that there had again been certain vandalism on the Domain. Entry had been gained to the rooms under the grandstand and a sheep grazing on the Domain grounds had been driven into the rooms and cruelly battered to death. Through the vigilance of the police there had been little vandalism in the town but in view of the recent act the board decided to redouble its efforts to co-operate with the police In bringing the culprits to justice. The meeting was presided over by Cr. R. A Gordon and there were also present Crs. J. Hallwood. G. S. Crichton, H. Dillon, E. W. Donovan and J. Dickie.
