NEXT VICTORY LOAN

WANGANUI PLANS LAID EXECUTIVE COAIMITEE IXIRMED.. “If we can get the same team work and organisation as that which was in operation for the 1944 Victory Loan we can be assured that the city and district quota of the 1945 Victory Loan will be raised,” said Mr. W. S. N. Rennie, who was elected chairman of fhe c;ty committee at a public meeting heid last night to make arrangements for the forthcoming Joan. Mr. Rennie expressed appreciation of the enthusiasm displayed and suggested that it be the aim of the executive to make a drive to secure advance subscriptions amounting to £lOO,OOO before May 14, when the loan campaign will officially open. Though he could not give, as yet, definite figures regarding Wanganui's quota, Mr. Rennie suggested that the amount could be gauged from the fact that Wanganui district, was allotted a quota of £1,037,000 for last year’s £40,000.000. whereas the current year’s loan was for £25,000,000. As convenor of the meeting, the Deputy-Mayor. Mr. T. S. Russell, said he was pleased to see by the attendance that Wanganui maintained, interest in one of the most important phases of the war effort. The loan period would extend over four weeks, from May 14 to Juno 14, and the lower figure of £25,(MH),000 should not present many difficulties if the public appreciated that it. was just as important to sustain ihoir efforts when victory was in sight as it was when the outlook was far from satisfactory. He also paid a tribute to the work and enthusiasm of Mr. P. Higginbottom in last year's loan campaign, when Wanganui city raised 96 per cent, of its objective and the district raised 95 pei* cent. Mr. W. S. N. Rennie was unanimously elected chairman of the city committee and Mr. E. A. Millward was elected to a similar position on the country committee. The plan of sotting up sectional subcommittees, as was done last year with marked success, was approved, and the following executive commitee waa formed, with power to add and coopt new members as required:— Messrs. W. S. N. Rennie and E. A. Miliward, Mrs. A. H. Mac Lean, Messrs. J. C. Balt, M. G. Bignell, W. J. Gilbert 4 , S. J. Sievers, A. Wilson, W. J. Gilbert. A. C. Sievwright, J. McMillan. D. J. B. Walker, A. McPhail, A. H. Collins and F. B. Wylds. A representali\e of the trading banks and a Junior Chamber of Commerce nominee arp also to be appointed to the executive. In order to enable the committees to finalise their campaign plans well in advance of the opening of the loan, it was decided to hold the next meeting of the executive on Monday, April 23. meetings being hold weekly thereafter, on Tuesdays at 4 p.m. Next week a two-day conference will be held in Wellington, and this will be attended by Messrs. D. J. B Walker, E. A. Millward and B. E. Williams. district organiser. A sub-committee consisting ol Messrs. Rennie, Mi)ward and Walkei was set up to consider the appointment of a secretary and to report tc the executive meeting on April 23.
